Organized Retail: Impact on Bottom of the Pyramid  (Friday, 16 November 2007)

Close to 97% of Indian Retail market is currently ‘unorganized’. This implies high inefficiencies and also exploitation of the stake holders at the ‘bottom of the pyramid’. Other viewpoint is that organizing retail will drive multiple stakeholders out of livelihood. Government regulations at the federal level are not very clear and the stand taken by respective state governments is very diverse in the current scenario. This panel will explore all these different aspects and highlight the opportunities the Billion Population of India and the 350M ‘middle class’ Indian population holds in the future.
